Our Gardens

Thank you for visiting our Website. Pheasant Gardens is located just outside of Truro, Nova Scotia. At Pheasant Gardens we are passionate about everything Daylilies. Cecil has been collecting daylilies for about 7 years now and about 4 years ago he set out to establish gardens where he could raise enough to sell to others. A great portion of our backyard is taken up with his passion. When he first planted the gardens here, there was no house and honestly we think the neighbours privately wondered just who this bazaar new neighbour was.

As we worked these new gardens, we were taken with how often two large male pheasants would observe and squawk at us. They were so beautiful that Lillian could not resist but to name the gardens after them. Unfortunately shortly after that decision was made, we were visited by another wild friend, a wild cat. It wasn’t long before we noticed there were no more pheasants! However later that fall another male pheasant moved in and to this day he continues to visit us periodically.

Cecil’s favourite form is doubles so you will find a large variety of doubles growing in the garden, including a section reserved for Ida Munson Award winners (currently four shy of a complete collection). Lillian on the other hand, whom has not completely caught the bug, enjoys large full formed daylilies.

It is hoped that we will host our first official open gardens this summer, please watch this site’s news section for more information regarding this. In any event we would like to invite everyone who enjoys gardening to drop by and enjoy ours from the middle of July through the middle of August. We suggest the best time is between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm and would ask that you contact us before arriving.
